Psalm 94

1-7: Call for the LORD to rise in vengeance

8-11: Warning to evildoers: nothing is hidden from the LORD

12-16: Reminder of the LORD’s discipline and justice

17-23: Assurance that the LORD protects the righteous

This psalm implores the LORD to avenge the innocent and bring His justice upon the wicked. It begins with a pleading cry and ends with an assured conviction.

The psalmist describes the works of the wicked and show how they disobey God’s law through violence and injustice. Then he assures them that the LORD sees and hears all that they do.

Next he turns to praise the LORD for His discipline of the righteous and justice towards all me before assuredly concluding that the LORD will arise to defend him.

It is a heartfelt prayer that starts and ends with faith in God’s justice over all creation.
