Psalm 87
This beautiful psalm of the sons of Korah examines the special nature of Zion, God’s chosen city of dwelling, and the privileges of belonging there or being numbered among its people.
What makes Zion special is not its physical location but its status as God’s chosen place of dwelling. All the earth and its people belong to the Lord but any city that harbours His manifest presence is specially blessed. The singers and flutists of Zion attest to the overflow of joy into their hearts from Zion.
God’s presence is hallowed, desirable, joy-producing, and to be sought after because it transforms the place it descends into and the people connected to it. Amen!
