Psalm 86

1-4: Prayer for the LORD’s salvation

5-7: Reminder of His abundant mercies

8-10: Reminder of His incomparable glory

11-13: Prayer for guidance & thanksgiving for salvation

14-17: Prayer for strength and deliverance from evil men

This psalm of David switches back and forth between supplication and worship. He pours out his heart and lays out his needs but also recognizes the LORD’s faithful and loving character. 

It is a reminder that prayer is an act of faith – persuasion about who God is and what He is able to do. We can acknowledge our needs without doubting His power and grace. 

In due season, He comes through and delivers the answers we need. Amen.
