1-9: Outpouring of anguish to God
10-12: Questions to God – will my death serve your praise?
13-18: Crying out to God for deliverance
This psalm of Heman the Ezrahite is an outpouring of raw emotions to the LORD from a suffering man in the throes of death. He is also identified in the title as one of the descendants of Korah.
Heman has suffered emotionally, been disconnected from his relationships, and pictures himself headed to death and the grave. He indicates in verses 6 to 8 that his predicament is from God.
Questioning why God allows him to suffer so and whether his death will bring praise to the LORD, he continues to cry out to the LORD for help and further details his prolonged suffering till the end of the psalm.
There is no resolution, no praise, and no thanksgiving. Just a broken man approaching the LORD for help and deliverance from his troubles. Selah!
