Psalm 63
1-5: Longing for and praising God
6-8: Thinking about God and His goodness
9-11: Declaring the portion of the wicked
David penned this psalm in a wilderness – physical thirst reminds him of his spiritual thirst and hunger for God. He recalls his divine encounter in the sanctuary and blesses God for favouring him and satisfying his soul.
He then goes on to reflect on God’s dealings with him in the past – His help and protection. His reaction is that of joyful singing and faithful clinging to God.
David concludes this psalm by declaring destruction for his enemies – the wicked who seek to destroy him – and affirming joy as the portion of those who trust in God. Amen!
