Psalm 54

1-3: A Plea for Rescue from Enemies

4-5: Assurance of God as Helper

6-7: Praise to God for Salvation

This short Davidic psalm is similar to Psalm 52; it is also a response to evil men scheming against David’s life.

He begins with a plea to God for salvation, and characterizes his enemies as godless, which explains why they are after the life of an innocent man, possibly for favour with King Saul.

He then reassures himself that God is his Helper, and He will repay his enemies accordingly. He concludes with commitment to sacrifice and praise the LORD, confident of salvation and victory over his enemies.
