Psalm 7
David wrote this psalm about Cush, a Benjaminite, a man whose words and deeds must have hurt David deeply that he pours out his heart to the LORD in this psalm.
Throughout this psalm, David appeals to God’s just character. In vs 1-5, the LORD is the Just Saviour he calls to for rescue. In vs 6-16, the LORD is the Just Judge who assembles the people and punishes the wicked according to their actions.
Vs 1-5
David vividly paints himself as the prey of a lion who will tear him apart and drag him away. He takes refuge in the LORD and asks the LORD to let him be overtaken only if evil is found in him. He appeals at once both to the LORD’s mercy and justice.
Vs 6-16
David appeals to the LORD as a Just and Righteous Judge who gathers the people and gives to each one what they deserve. Then He turns and describes the fate of the wicked – the evil that comes upon them because of their violent deeds
Vs 17
He then ends the psalm on a note of thanksgiving and praise to the LORD Most High because of His righteousness.
