Psalm 75

1-5: Praise to the Just and Almighty God

6-8: Who exalts, demotes, and judges

9-10: Praise to the God of Jacob, the Just One

God’s justice and equity is a running theme in this psalm of praise from Asaph. We hear God’s voice in verses 2 to 6 as He declares His role as the Just One and Sustainer of the Earth. He keeps the earth in balance and warns the proud against boasting.

The Exalted One alone is truly capable of exalting anyone. If anyone is promoted, it came from the Lord. Likewise, those who are humbled have been humbled by God, who also rewards the wicked with the judgment due to them.

Asaph concludes his psalm with praise to the God of Jacob, who is faithful to punish the wicked and exalt the (horns of the) righteous. Amen.
