Psalm 48

This psalm of the sons of Korah examines the LORD’s majesty as revealed in Mount Zion, His holy city, and in the whole earth.

1-3: The LORD Praised in His Holy City

4-8: Kings Terrified by the LORD’s City

9-14: God’s Majesty in Zion and the Earth

The first section of this psalm praises the LORD’s greatness as revealed in His chosen dwelling place – mount Zion. By surrounding and fortifying it and by its elevated location, He reveals His glorious greatness.

The second section describes the terror of earthly kings on encountering God in His City. They are physically destroyed and emotionally distraught as they are defeated in their opposition to Him.

The third and last section describes God’s majesty in His temple, His chosen city, and all over the earth. He reveals Himself to His people so they are full of testimonies that are relayed from one generation to another.

The LORD is worthy to be praised! Amen.
