Psalm 46

1-3: God – a refuge in times of trouble

4-7: God’s presence assures victory

8-11: YHWH’s terrifying works and reassuring words

Written by the sons of Korah, this is a psalm of reassurance to God’s people in times of terrifying tumult – a reminder that our God is more terrifying than our greatest fears. 

He is ever present and ready to help, sends out a glorious river whose streams gladden His people, quietens every uproar with His voice, and terminates wars by destroying the weapons of the warring parties.

He calls us to stop striving, to be still and recognize His sovereignty and dominion over the earth. This God is present with us. He is our stronghold – a sure hiding place.
