Psalms 9
This Davidic Psalm features themes of thanksgiving, praise, justice and righteousness amid prayers for deliverance from the enemy.
1-2: Commitment to praise and thanksgiving
David’s praise flows from his heart through his lips, speaking of the LORD’s wondrous works and rejoicing in Him.
3-6: Deliverance by the Just God
He describes the LORD’s destruction of his enemies an act of justice. Divine deliverance comes easier when we align with the LORD
7-10: The Just and Righteous King
The LORD (YHWH) is a King whose defence of the oppressed is an act of justice done in righteousness. There is no partiality in Him.
11-16: Praise, Supplication, and Testimony
David moves m from praise to prayer to testimony about the LORD’s just judgment of the wicked. His prayers are rooted in his assurance about God’s character.
17-20: Testimony and Supplication
He closes this psalm with a testimony about God’s punishment of the wicked and deliverance of the afflicted followed by an appeal for judgment against the nations.
