Every now and then, I find myself in a difficult place, with challenges that destabilize my emotions and clog my thinking. Sometimes, it’s like being caught between a rock and a hard place. At other times, it feels like falling from a height without knowing what lies beneath. I may need wisdom to determine what steps to take next, or faith to hold on while God works things out. Either way, I am not in the place I want to be, and I find it very disconcerting.

At those times, I have no choice but to fall back on my coping mechanisms, which are borne out of the foundation on which my life is laid – the Word of God. My coping mechanisms go something of a sequence like: “Be still and rest in God”, “Give thanks in all situations”, “Trust that all things are working for your good”, “Ask for wisdom and direction”, “Focus on what you can do”, and “Take one step at a time”. It doesn’t always follow this order, and some may feature more than others depending on the situation, but that’s the general process.

Largely speaking, it’s a mechanism that has worked every time. I learn something different from each experience, but the pattern of resolution is usually similar. For this, I have God to thank! His Word provides a solid foundation that makes my life relatively stable regardless of the turbulences I experience. While my emotions can be on a rollercoaster from one day to another and my thoughts can vacillate from one moment to the next, the outcome of my life has been fairly stable and consistent with God’s promises for my life.

Life can be challenging and unpredictable, but God’s Word leads us into an experience of joy and peace that defies the challenges we go through. We can look forward to each day with hope and confidence, not because we know what will happen, but because we follow a God who makes it all work together for good. Living by God’s Word – obeying its commands, practicing its principles, and believing its promises – is a solid foundation that every human being needs for life every day.

If you are not committed to reading God’s Word – the Bible – every day, today is a good day to start or restart that commitment and set yourself on an assured path in life every day. I look forward to hearing your testimonies about the impact of God’s Word on your life. Thanks for coming by, and I’ll see you next time!
