Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God.
Isaiah 50:10 NIV

Sometimes, the righteous walk in the dark. They deal with uncertainty, feeling their way around and wondering if God has abandoned them. People who revere God and obey His word do find themselves in such places, not because of sin or disobedience, but because we live in a fallen world. But God uses those times for our good.

The prime instruction we encounter in the Bible passage above is to trust in the name of the Lord and rely on our God. When you go through darkness, trust in the name of the Lord. Call on Him, knowing that he will provide guidance and support in the dark. The darkness may not disappear quickly, but your faith grows in the process.

We are also called to rely on our God because our capabilities are limited in darkness. Darkness may be inadequate knowledge, resources or experience to deal with a situation. God uses those moments of insufficiency to show His strength and build us up – but only if we rely on Him. He bears us up when we cannot find our way.

Are you in darkness? Then trust in the Lord’s name. Call on him. Rely on and rest in Him. He will not let you hit your foot against a stone. Don’t fret or be disturbed – God can control outcomes and bring you through safely. He can teach you what to do, and even right your mistakes. But first, you must trust in His name, and rely on Him.
