Psalm 84

1-4: Longing to be in God’s presence

5-8: The blessing of a heart set on God’s presence

9-12: The superlative glory of being in God’s presence

This psalm of the Korahites describes the longing of a heart for God’s presence, specifically for worship at the temple in Jerusalem.

It expresses the joy of being in the place God has chosen to be and the songs of praise that emanate from those who dwell there.

We also see the transformation that those whose hearts are set on God’s presence bring to everything in their path (vs. 6). Their joy is infectious, and their strength never diminishes (vs. 7).

The author expresses the surpassing blessing of even a little time around God’s house with minimal possessions compared to spending much time anywhere else in abundance.

God’s presence brings joy, songs, strength, transformative power, light, and a covering to those who seek it and are set on finding it. Amen!
