Psalm 11
This Davidic psalm reflects on what to do when evil seems to prevail. There are several options. David’s pick? Trust in the LORD because He is righteous and just.
1-3: Contending with Hopelessness
In the face of wicked schemes and the prevalence of evil, what should the righteous do? Flee for their lives and go into hiding? David rejects that option by stating that he has taken refuge in the LORD! If we trust in the LORD for protection, then we must be willing to take a stand for Him.
4-7: Affirming the LORD’s Sovereignty, Justice and Righteousness
David proceeds to reassert that the LORD is still reigning from heaven and He is watching over all of humanity. His righteous and just character is also unchanged, meaning that the wicked schemes of the evil will be overtaken by God’s just vengeance. The righteous can rest knowing that the LORD desires to bring them close to Him. He will fight their battles and defeat evil.
Those who trust in the LORD will not merely run into hiding. They will act knowing the just and righteous King is working in their favour to defeat wickedness. Amen.
