He leadeth me, He leadeth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be
For by His hand He leadeth me
The title of this post is drawn from an old hymn, whose refrain/chorus is the paragraph above. Today, I invite you to set your mind on the blessed thought that the Lord leads you, through every mountain and valley, through happy and sad, clear and confusing moments alike. Let us ponder together what this means for our lives and how we should respond to God’s leadership.
We all have moments of clarity, when we know exactly what we want to do next and how things should pan out. But how often has God’s sovereign hand led us away from those actions and guided us into His perfect will? How often do we realize in arrears that God that kept us from the error, danger or destruction we would have plunged into with our decisions?
Times of confusion and uncertainty also abound in our lives, when we’re not sure what path to take, or if our choices are right. Times when we’ve taken a chance because we just needed to make a decision – how wonderful has been God’s mercy in guiding us, making things work for our good and preserving us even when we’ve been mistaken? Truly, it is He who leads us.
I want to remind you, that God’s sovereign Hand leads each one of us, even before we know Him, into a loving relationship with Him and a lifetime of fulfilling divine purpose. I also challenge you to seek and submit to the leading of the Lord in your daily life – in little and in great things, in clear and confusing areas alike. He desires to guide us into His perfect plan for our lives. Will we submit?
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. (Psalms 32:8-9 NIV)
