God is good. As I reflect tonight, I cannot but agree with the testimony of Scriptures and the saints through the ages who have affirmed unreservedly that “God is good”. In spite of the hardships, sorrow and difficulties faced by many people in the world today, the truth remains that God is good. We fallen in a fallen world, but we are beneficiaries of the goodness and mercies of the living God, who causes the sun to rise on the good and the evil, who sends rain both for the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45)
The very fact that the world has not been destroyed in spite of the wickedness of men is proof of God’s goodness and patience with men; his intent is to see as many as possible repent of their wicked deeds (Romans 2:4). And indeed, the goodness of God has persuaded many to surrender to his everlasting love. As a Father, he is willing to wait and endure the wickedness of many just to secure the repentance of a few – every soul is that precious to him. His mercies, as the Bible severally says, endures forever, literally!
Never be deceived to think you have not experienced the goodness of God, because you have in fact, been a beneficiary of his generosity in many ways. You just need to think of how much worse off you could be, and you’ll know God has been good to you. More importantly, trusting that you will still experience more of God’s goodness in your lifetime strengthens you and opens your mind to the possibilities ahead. So, do not faint or become discouraged. Wait on him, because he will strengthen you and show you kindness while you remain in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13-14). Remain assured that God is good!
